Sector Programmes
This database offers national programme documents for the agricultural sector as well as for rural development. There is great variation in scope between these programme documents;: Some are sector-wide, such as Tanzania's Agriculture Sector Development Programme, some have a sub-sector focus, e.g. Ghana's Agriculture Services Sub-Sector Investment Programme, whereas yet others have a multi-sector scope, as is the case for rural development programmes of Burkina Faso and Cameroon.
Whether a country has opted for a sector, sub-sector or even a multi-sector strategy is the outcome of a national decision making process. In compiling this database, we have not limited ourselves to the ‘classical' sector wide programme, but have followed a more practical approach based on the following criteria: (i) The document has to concern a national framework for action; (ii) with a focus on agriculture or rural development ;
In as much as possible we have collected policy, strategy and programme documents, though in most cases not all of these exist or are available. Based on requests by participants to the Africa Forum , our intention is to not only provide the actual programme documents, but also related management tools, such as Memoranda of Understanding or MIS instruments. This part of the database is still being build up. For ease of reference, all documents are categorised by country.
